Secretarial Studies
The Secretarial Department in Trinity Catholic High School is a highly successful department. The Head of Department is responsible for all of the GCSE and Sixth Form teaching. The main aim of the department is to enable all Trinity students to be given the opportunity to develop the life skill of keyboarding.
Examination results are excellent and well above both national and local averages. In 2008, 93% of Year 11 students achieved A*-C in Business and Communication Systems. Year 12 students achieved 98% in Word Processing.
The syllabuses for both GCSE and Year 12 have both recently changed. The GCSE now requires students to be familiar with presentation software; to be able to create a website and to prepare a mailshot. For the first time this year coursework will account for 25% of the overall mark in Business and Communication Systems GCSE. The Year 12 syllabus now requires students to add graphics and borders into reports and access a filepath; these changes are all designed to be more reflective of technology as it is used in the workplace.
Students are encouraged to develop excellent IT skills which will serve them well whatever path they wish to pursue after school.
The department is excellently resourced with texts and a newly refurbished IT room. There is a strong emphasis on revision classes in Years 11 to ensure excellent preparation for examinations.
