The PE department currently consists of 9 PE specialists, 8 of whom are full time. On site facilities include 3 large playgrounds, one of which is floodlit, a well-equipped gymnasium, and a Sports Hall with trampolines and cricket nets.  Our off site facilities include access to a sailing lake, 5 Astroturf tennis courts and 4 squash courts at Woodford Wells Club, an 8-lane tartan athletics track and extensive playing fields. We also have a state of the art playing fields at Whitbreads which is at Semi-Pro standard where football, rugby and cricket lessons take place.

At Trinity our commitment to achieving the best for all is longstanding and well known.   PE sets extremely high standards and regularly exceeds them.  High expectation and high standards permeate all aspects of school life.   We have already achieved a great deal, but we remain committed to improving even further.

Trinity was designated as a DfES Sports College (2nd Specialism) in April 2007.  Sports College status has enabled significant developments in curricular provision, out of school hours learning and community links, particularly with our partner Secondary and Primary schools.

As a Sports College there will be extended opportunities for students to take part in and enjoy sports both as part of the curriculum and outside lesson time.  There will be increased provision for outdoor education and in girls through Dance.  There will be increased opportunity for students to lead active and healthy lives.  Our East London location means that the Olympics may bring vocational opportunities for our students.  The experiences of WRL gained and the leadership skills developed, by studying for vocational qualifications (level 1 Community Sports Leader Awards), should increase the chances of our students being selected to work as ambassadors or volunteers in support of the Olympics.  We plan to play a strategic role in Redbridge as a lead agency for Outdoor Education.

We intend to develop further the strong links with the local community established through Sports College status.   Trinity facilities are already used by a number of local clubs - e.g., Badminton, Football, Fencing. There is capacity for this to increase providing increased opportunities for young people in our family of schools and locally to participate in sport.

All students at key stage 3 enjoy 2 ½ hours of PE in Games, Gymnastics, Outdoor Education, Athletics and Dance.

At key stage 4 all students have 2 ½ hours of PE and take a short course in GCSE PE, with the extra option of taking either Full course PE or Dance.

We currently have over 50 students studying ‘A’ level, we offer OCR AS and A2 courses comprising in Y12 of  : Skill Acquisition, Contemporary Studies and Anatomy. Y13 students study Sports Psychology, Exercise Physiology and History of Sport. Two sports are also assessed and as well as the traditional games we offer Mountain Walking, swimming, trampolining.

All students in year 10 also follow the Level 1 Award in Sports Leadership. 40 Students in year 12 are currently following the Level 1 Award in Community Sports Leadership.

There is a wide and varied extra curricular programme to include all abilities and needs, as well as a staff running club on a weekly basis. These take place after school and occasionally at weekends and are run by staff and students taking part in Sports Leader courses. We offer : netball, girls and boys football, rugby, rounders, cricket, badminton, dance, trampolining and fitness.

We enjoy success at local, County, Regional and National level in Football, Netball and Cricket. We currently have 10 students who compete at Regional level and above in a range of sports.

The Junior Athlete Education mentor programme is successfully running to support 6 elite athletes in the school to ensure they meet academic and sporting goals.  There are ski trips that take place at February half term and Easter to either Europe or America in which 50% of year 8 students participate.

We offer a weeks residential in Glasbury House Outdoor Education Centre to 80 year 10 boys and girls, to participate in outdoor and adventurous activities. They will also have the opportunity to take part in the expedition for the Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Award during this week.  The Silver Duke of Edinburgh expedition is also 2 separate weeks residential at Glasbury which compliments those students who also opt to do mountain walking for A level PE. There are currently 45 students pursuing the Silver Award.
