Music
The music department has excellent teaching facilities consisting of two large classrooms which both well equipped with and interactive white board, a selection of keyboards, tuned and untuned percussion, a drum kit, acoustic, electric and bass guitars. Along side the classrooms we have a computer suite running Cubase and Sibelius software, an A level teaching room and two practice rooms where instrumental lessons take place. We have seven visiting instrumental teachers supplied by Redbridge Music Service, who provide individual instrumental and singing lessons to approximately 100 students.
Music in Year 7 and 8 is taught on a weekly basis in mixed ability classes studying a variety of western musical styles and other traditions from around the world. This is done through performance, composition and listening & appraising developing students group skills as well as musical understanding and appreciation. At Year 9 students are taught on a carousel with Drama learning about the development of popular music and the new directions taken by modern classical composers.
We currently have 1 class in Year 10 and 2 classes in Year 11 following the Edexcel GCSE specification and one class at both AS & A2-level following the OCR specification.
