TRINITY CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOL (Science and Sports College) Chairman of Governors: Mrs G King Headmaster: Dr P C Doherty, B.A., D.Phil (Oxon), F.R.S.A. About the CDT Department The CDT Department at Trinity Catholic High School is now based in a new block consisting of four multi media workshops and a new Construction area. It is staffed at present by an enthusiastic team of four full-time teachers and the equivalent of two full-time technicians. It is well stocked and equipped, and we are able to produce a wide range ofproject work and take an interest in incorporating the use of ICT into our designwork. The department is able to book an ICT room for class work and follow this up with individual work using our own systems. The Work Shops have access to sets of lap top computers and projectors. All pupils in Years 7 – 9
take Technology for half a day. By the end of KS3, pupilsattainment in Design and Technology is well above the National average. In Years 10 and 11, exam options are taken and currently we offer Graphic Products, Construction and Resistant Materials, catering for approximately 150 students. AS / A level Design and Technology Product Design is taught in the Sixth Form. The pupils produce some interesting project work and exam results are very good – the department has a percentage A* - C pass rate at GCSE which is in the high 80s or 90s according to the subject. It has slightly higher rates at AS and A2 level. After a previous Ofsted Inspection, the Technology Department was one of a number that were named as performing well. In the Spring Term 2006 Ofsted described the teaching at Trinity as outstanding. The Technology Department is continuing to develop new courses and adapt to National Curriculum requirements. It has recently introduced a new City and Guilds Foundation Course in Building Craft Occupations. |
