Modern Foreign Languages
The Modern Languages Department at Trinity Catholic High school is a highly successful and enthusiastic department comprising at present of six full-time teachers. We also have Language Assistants for both French and Spanish assisting with Years 9 – 13 and a part-time resource technician.
Pupils begin with either French or Spanish in Year 7, and are actively encouraged to choose a language as an option for GCSE. Both languages are offered to Advanced Level. All classes throughout the school are taught in mixed ability groups. We presently have four groups in each year of KS4 where Languages are an Option. We offer the Cambridge Latin Course to Years 8 and 9 as an extra curricular class.
The course books and resources used are as follows:-

Year 9 students have been taken on Christmas visits to the market in Lille and Year 10/11 students on residential trips to France when possible.
Year 10, 12 and 13 students have pen-friends from French and Spanish schools and their correspondents have visited Trinity Catholic High School, going to lessons and socialising with their partners. Students in Year 12 have been on work experience abroad.
Each Language teacher has their own classroom base. The department is well-equipped with audio equipment, interactive whiteboard projectors and overhead projectors, which are easily accessible to all staff. There is a bank of central resources, worksheets, other course books, texts etc.
Extra Curricular activities include many clubs, revision classes and workshops both during lunchtime and after school to support and extend pupils. In addition, we have an extra curricular Latin class for Year 8 and 9 pupils and a Japanese Taster Class for Years 9 and 10 students. Students in Year 7 have the opportunity to join the Arsenal Double Club in the summer term.
Year 9 students are entered for the AQA Foundation Certificate of Secondary Education. KS4 students are entered for AQA GCSE and Sixth Form students are entered for Edexcel AS and A2. High expectations and high standards permeate all aspects of school life. The department enjoys excellent examination success. Results for 2011 were as follows:
