The Ivy comes to Trinity Catholic High School – Friday 19th March 2010
Ex Trinity student Gary Lee,Head Chef at The Ivy restaurant, brought Adam Sutton Senior Sous Chef and Alice Hall Head Pastry Chef to work with Year 10 GCSE Food Technology students on Friday afternoon.
The class were treated to a demonstration of jointing a whole chicken which they then used to make soup. Students worked in groups to learn how to make signature dishes from The Ivy menu – Shepherds Pie, Sticky Toffee Pudding and Iced Cupcakes.
Students had the opportunity to test what they had made and ask questions. Some of the students hope to carry out work experience at The Ivy in Year 11 and the class have been invited back to the restaurant to see the Chef’s in their kitchen. Student Jonathon Barrow said of the experience ‘The chef’s were all really nice and I had a great time. The Shepherds Pie tasted really good and it was great to help with the making’.
Year 12 student April Partridge recently won the Regional finals of the Rotary Club Young Chef competition and is being mentored by Gary Lee.
Every student was given a signed copy of The Ivy restaurant menu with a personalised message from Gary as a momento of their experience. Food Technology teacher Sarah Loster said ‘This was an exceptional opportunity for the students to watch and learn from experienced chefs and the students thoroughly enjoyed themselves. I am sure they won’t forget the experience for a long time.’
